The first company within the Torvald Klaveness Group was established in 1946 by the late Mr. Torvald Klaveness. It all started with technical and commercial management and competitive brokering.
Since its inauguration, the company has gradually expanded and is today one of the world’s major dry-bulk shipping organizations.
The head office is in Oslo, Norway, with global presence. The company is engaged in marketing, commercial management, technical management, consulting and shipowning. On average, Klaveness operates about 70 vessels carrying 40 million tons of cargo per year. Among our customers are governments, oil companies, industrial companies and traders as well as individuals.

The Torvald Klaveness Group splits in two
The shareholders of the Torvald Klaveness Group have formalized an agreement regarding a split of the Group into two separate entities.
The core shipping activities will be continued under the ownership of Trond Harald Klaveness. This means that Klaveness Commercial Management, Klaveness Maritime Logistics, Klaveness Asia (both chartering/operations and container activity) and the offices in Shanghai and Manila will continue as the Torvald Klaveness Group together with related management and supporting functions in Klaveness Corporate Services. These activities have the exclusive right to use the name The Torvald Klaveness Group/Rederiaksjeselskapet Torvald Klaveness.
The activity related to Klaveness Invest, Real Estate and investments in private equity and shares will continue under the ownership of Tom Erik Klaveness and his daughters and will be named Klaveness Marine Holding.
The Group has a very robust financial position before the split, and the two separated entities will be fully viable both financially and operationally.
The split was fully implemented in September 2011.
