Following MV Baltazar’s maiden voyage to Australia, this event brings together customers, partners, and industry stakeholders to celebrate new and long-standing partnerships and the future of resilient, decarbonized, and cost-effective seaborne supply chains.
The experience
The day will begin at the Fremantle Passenger Terminal at Fremantle Port with the official Naming Ceremony of MV Baltazar where Hon Rita Saffioti, Deputy Premier of Western Australia, will formally name the vessel. This will be followed by an onboard tour showcasing how KCC’s combination carriers are redefining efficiency and sustainability in tanker and dry bulk shipping.
From there, guests will gather at the WA Maritime Museum for a sunset reception as MV Baltazar departs Fremantle Harbour, accompanied by tugboats saluting the vessel with a traditional water cannon display.
To conclude the program, the Klaveness Forum will bring together leaders from across the Klaveness Group and invited industry representatives to discuss how smarter vessel utilization, closer industry collaboration, and more connected supply chains can reduce inefficiencies, lower emissions, and strengthen resilience across global seaborne trade.

About MV Baltazar
MV Baltazar, the third vessel in KCC’s CABU III series, marks a new milestone in the efficiency and sustainability of maritime transportation to and from Australia.
The CABU III vessels are the fifth generation of KCC’s combination carriers serving trades to and from Australia. MV Baltazar and KCC’s other combination carriers are uniquely designed to operate as both tankers and dry bulk vessels. This enables the CABU vessels to transport liquid cargoes such as caustic soda and fertilizer (UAN) into Australia and carry dry bulk commodities—including alumina, iron ore, grain, salt, and other export cargoes—on outbound voyages. The CLEANBU vessels main liquid cargo into Australia is clean petroleum products like gasoline, gasoil and jetfuel.
This dual-purpose capability makes KCC’s vessels significantly more efficient than conventional tankers and dry bulk carriers serving Australia. Due to the imbalance between inbound tanker cargoes and outbound dry bulk cargoes, conventional vessels often sail long distances empty either before loading or after discharging cargo, resulting in substantial ballast voyages.
By being able to carry a wider range of cargo types, KCC’s combination carriers can secure cargoes in both directions and therefore spend a much greater proportion of their time sailing laden. As a result, they transport more cargo and generate substantially lower emissions per tonne of cargo carried than conventional vessels of similar size.

MV Baltazar and her sister vessels are designed for the cargo flows in and out of Australia and the shallow-draft ports of Western Australia, maximizing cargo intake and operational efficiency in these trades.

Compared with KCC’s oldest CABU vessels, MV Baltazar has up to 15% larger cargo carrying capacity.

KCC’s combination carriers substantially reduce the carbon footprint of Australian tanker imports and dry bulk exports.
Compared with conventional tanker and dry bulk vessels operating in trades to Australia, MV Baltazar is expected to deliver 40–50% lower carbon emissions per ton transported. This is achieved through a combination of trading efficiency and a wide range of innovative onboard energy-efficiency technologies designed to reduce fuel consumption.
Among the vessel’s installed technologies are two of the world’s tallest suction sails standing at 27-meters-high above the forecastle deck supporting lower fuel consumption and reduced emissions.

MV Baltazar will sail under the Norwegian International Ship Register (NIS) with Oslo as home port.
The vessel is owned by KCC Shipowning AS, a wholly owned Norwegian subsidiary of Klaveness Combination Carriers ASA, and classed by DNV (Det Norske Veritas).

Engebret Dahm, a Norwegian national, has more than 30 years’ experience in the shipping and finance industries. Dahm was appointed CEO of Klaveness Combination Carriers ASA in 2018 and before that he held the position as Head of Combination Carriers in Torvald Klaveness. Prior to that he was the CEO of Norwegian Car Carriers AS and he worked in the period 1998-2000 for Crédit Agricole CIB in Paris. In the period 1990-1998 and 2000-2006, he had various positions in Torvald Klaveness, amongst others as Head of Klaveness’ transloader and beltunloader business.
Dahm is a board member of Oslo Shipowners’ Association.
He holds a degree in business from the Norwegian School of Economics (NHH).

Hon Rita Saffioti MLA is the Deputy Premier, Treasurer, Minister for Transport and Minister for Sport and Recreation.
Rita was elected as the Member for West Swan in 2008 and has served as a senior Cabinet Minister across multiple portfolios since 2017, including Transport, Tourism, Planning, Lands, Ports, and Treasury.
She attended Kelmscott Senior High School and gained a Bachelor of Business at Curtin University.
Rita worked in the Federal Department of Finance and the Western Australian Department of Treasury before becoming an economic adviser to Geoff Gallop from 1997 and, ultimately, Chief of Staff to Premier Alan Carpenter.

Ernst Meyer has been with Torvald Klaveness in 2019 in the roles of Chief Operations Officer and Managing Director for Klaveness Ship Management. In January 2022, he was appointed new Chief Executive Officer for Torvald Klaveness. Prior to joining Torvald Klaveness, Meyer worked 20 years for Det Norske Veritas (DNV) in various executive positions.

Prior to joining Klaveness, Kylstad was Chief Operating Officer in Katapult Ocean following several years working with EU public affairs, including for the Norwegian Shipowners Association. She is currently a non-executive director in Solstad Offshore ASA and GC Rieber Salt.

With over two decades of shipping experience, Michael Jørgensen serves as EVP and Head of Dry Bulk at Torvald Klaveness, a leading ship operator known for integrating innovation, sustainability, and digital solutions into its operations. In addition to mainstream operations, Klaveness Dry Bulk and Marubeni Corporation run the Panamax pool Baumarine by MaruKlav, where Jørgensen holds the position of Managing Director.
Driven by a passion for challenging the status quo and seeking new ways to deliver value, Jørgensen is dedicated to enhancing the sustainability and digitalization of bulk shipping and together with his team, launched the freight decision-making platform Market Manager by Klaveness in 2023.

As General Manager at South32, Dennis leads the commercial team overseeing global alumina sales, procurement of traded raw materials as well as ocean freight for all commodities. South32’s freight team manages safety, chartering and operations for about 500 voyages per year, transporting inbound raw materials and products from site to customer. Dennis has over 20 years’ experience in commercial and supply chain roles at global mining companies.
